Each August, Catholic school educators from across the Archdiocese of Baltimore gather for the annual Convocation to celebrate their shared mission and prepare for the year ahead. At this year's gathering, the Archdiocese recognized GB Charities with its Catholic Schools Partnership Award, an honor that reflects far more than the work of our organization alone.

Every scholarship GB Charities funds begins with someone else's generosity. It begins with a donor who made a gift, a sponsor who supported an event, a member who volunteered their time, and a friend who helped carry this mission further than we could have carried it on our own. This recognition reflects all of them, and most of all it reflects the students and families whose futures have been changed through access to a faith-based education.

MORE THAN THIRTY YEARS OF GIVING BACK

In 1980, a group of high school friends known as the Gutter Boys recognized how fortunate they had been, and they promised one another that they would one day give back to the Baltimore community that raised them. They kept that promise. GB Charities was formally recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in July of 1991, and in the years since, the organization has raised more than $5 million and funded scholarships for over 1,300 promising students throughout the Baltimore area.

Today GB Charities sponsors 100 students, ranging from first grade through high school, and remains committed to spending more than $1 million over the next eight years on tuition for children from hardworking, low-income families. Because every administrative and operating cost is absorbed by our members, every single dollar raised goes directly to fund a child's scholarship.

WHAT THIS RECOGNITION REALLY MEASURES

When our students walk into a classroom each morning, they do so because people believed in them. They benefit not only from a quality education, but from the confidence, stability, mentorship, and sense of belonging that come with being part of a caring school community. Those opportunities create ripple effects that extend well beyond a single student, strengthening families and neighborhoods for years to come.

That is the real story behind this award, and it is a story written by everyone who has ever given to this mission.
