Why We're Needed Many public schools in low-income areas of Baltimore are failing, miserably. Too many of our young people are exposed to drugs, crime, violence, and, worst of all, neglect. Loving, hard-working parents in these blighted communities are confronted with huge obstacles for their children, and have few options. One option is GBC. We believe that education is critical to reaching one’s potential and children have the capacity to transcend their circumstances—given a loving, safe, and supportive environment in which to learn. G.B. Charities, Inc. (GBC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the Baltimore metropolitan community through the education of its youth. GBC sponsors promising children and adolescents from hard-working, low-income families living in at-risk areas, paying their tuition at accredited faith-based schools. By providing these students with a stable, nurturing educational environment and ensuring that they continue to enjoy strong family support and participate in constructive extracurricular activities, GBC offers them the opportunity to reach their highest potential—thus contributing, one young person at a time, to a positive social cycle fueled by strong values, self-confidence, and hope for a better tomorrow.
